Washington Post Launching Blogroll Ad Network

Via ProBlogger, I've learned that WashingtonPost.com is launching a sponsored blogroll ad network. It appears to be a paid text link ad network model.

"...They are building a network of bloggers to participate. Marketers can browse bloggers in the network and WP’s sales team will sell ads for you. WP and the blogger splits the revenue (no mention of what the split is)."

It's a beta program and by their own admission "Like a lot of experimental programs on the Web, we're trying this out to see what happens". Wow... first of all, who taught this old-school newspaper company to talk to us in this human-friendly tone? Very flickr.

I think the number of submissions will be huge given the chance for exposure to Washington Post's 8 million readers. But that also means the selection process for this beta program will be very exclusive as well. But like they say your odds go up when you submit an application. They are primarily interested in blogs that focus on Technology, Business, Health, Automotive and Travel topics.

By the way... I've seen more than few blogs covering this story referring to Washington Post as "WaPo". Can we please stop that like right now? I'm already reacting showing signs of violent allergic reaction whenever I see a Washington Mutual commercial calling itself "WaMu". Sorry, but you all sound like a jack ass.
